On May 25, Omer Meir Wellber will conduct Bernstein’s MASS as part of the “International Music Festival Hamburg”.
The work consistently transcends the boundaries of classical genres: sacred music, rock, blues, gospel, and jazz engage in an intense dialogue. Between ritual, rebellion, and the individual search for meaning, a multi-layered musical and theatrical event unfolds, addressing existential questions of faith, doubt, community, and identity.
Omer Meir Wellber describes Bernstein’s MASS as a “celebration of life – contradictory, loud, vulnerable,”thereby highlighting the work’s unique emotional and social scope, which continues to demonstrate its artistic and social relevance to this day.
The production brings together over 200 participants from the orchestra, choirs, soloists, dancers, and ensemble, unfolding as a large-scale music theater event that blends concert, stage, and performance.
