About the production:

What premiered as an avant-garde production in 1988 remains forward-looking in the radically changed world of 2026: Ruth Berghaus’s landmark production sends Kurwenal, Brangäne, Tristan and Isolde on a moving dream journey in which infinity seems within reach. Longings, torments and death in love lend gravity to human existence, yet are put into perspective by the vastness of the universe.

Omer Meir Wellber will also serve as music director for this season’s final performance of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” on June 17, 2026. Further information about this production can be found here.
