Omer Meir Wellber conducts Verdi’s ERNANI at the Teatro Massimo

Omer Meir Wellber conducts Verdi’s ERNANI in Palermo – 22 years after its last production was realized at the Teatro Massimo. Friday, 26 February 2021, at 8 p.m. (CET) as a livestream on Teatro Massimo’s WebTv and available afterwards on demand on YouTube

In 1844, ERNANI was premiered at the Teatro La Fenice in Venedig, bringing Verdi his first international success at the age of 31. The opera is based on Victor Hugo’s 1830 drama Hernani, a milestone of French theatrical and literary romanticism, and marks the beginning of Verdi’s fruitful collaboration with Francesco Maria Piave, who became his favorite librettist. The cast includes tenor Giorgio Berrugi in the title role, soprano Eleonora Buratto (Elvira), baritone Simone Piazzola (Don Carlos, King of Spain), and bass Michele Pertusi (Don Ruy Gomez de Silva, Great of Spain).

Still available is “Il crepuscolo dei sogni” (Twilight of Dreams), Teatro Massimo’s season opener on 26 January 2021. “Il crepuscolo dei sogni is the most eccentric and creative offering of ‘opera without an audience’ of the year.” (Angelo Foletto, la Repubblica)
