Omer Meir Wellber opens the season of the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra with three concerts on 29, 30 October and 1 November 2014. The program features Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20, played by Omer Meir Wellber himself, and a world premiere by Israeli composer Noam Sheriff: “Between Sacred & Secular” – a composition for Countertenor & Orchestra with Yaniv D’or as the soloist.
Sheriff says about his work: “My composition ‘Between Sacred and Secular’ is a cycle of five songs based on biblical text, prayer, poetry and secular songs. […] I tried to see the ‘pseudo gray’ area between the sacred and the secular, that is, to see the ‘secular within the sacred’ and the sacred and beauty within the secular.”
