Omer Meir Wellber conducts Verdi’s Aida to open the Opera Festival at the Arena di Verona on 14 June 2013. The performance is staged by La Fura dels Baus, the renowned Catalan theatre group.
With Aida the festival celebrates not only Verdi’s 200th anniversary in 2013 but also the first century of the Arena di Verona Opera Festival that was inaugurated with an acclaimed performance of Aida in 1913. Aida is the Arena opera par excellence: on no other stage the splendour of the pharaohs can unfold that gloriously and nowhere else the famous Triumphal March appears so monumentally.
German public TV ZDF will broadcast the premiere performance on 16 June at 22.00 (CET). Nina Eichinger and Rolando Villazón will lead through the evening. Please click here for further information. The complete opera will be available online for free from 17 to 22 June at the ZDF Mediathek.
